Empty house with a bubble in the kitchen ceiling. Bathroom above. Took bath panel off & all dry.
Hot cylinder in bedroom, leaking from top immersion.
Turned water off in road & ran all taps hot & cold u til they stopped.
Cold feed to cylinder in 28mm with a compression elbow with drain off. Drain off not working even after a good few bangs.
The question is, if I undo the top where the hot water comes out I can siphon the water into the bath. But, if I pull the pipe out will I get flooded or will turning the hot taps on until they stop allow me to do it?
Also, does anyone know where I can get a 28mm compression elbow with a drain off?
Cheers all

You're not gonna get a 28mm compression wlbow with a drain off easily especially on a saturday, might want to go for a reducing tee and seperate doc. When you run the hot tap it pretty much only empties the cwsc, the cylinder is going to be 1/2 - 3/4 full still, come on Rocky simple stuff that, did you have a few bevvies last night matey? You're gonna have to snatch or freeze for that elbow if you can't find another way to drain that off. Your suggestion of syphoning from above is the easiest way.

Hang on, is that pipe going to the cwsc? Yeah it should be empty once you've opened all taps til they stop running.

yea, if that is the cold feed to the cylinder, It will drain the cylinder too, no need for a syphon,

That 28mm pipe goes into the cylinder from the loft. The issue wasn’t really knowing if the cylinder was fully drained by turning the hot taps on, I know it isn’t because it’s heavy. I just wanted opinions on how much it’ll drain by doing that. I’m going to siphon it out, keep the elbow in place but cut in a 28x28x15 tee & put a new doc on the 15mm side. Ill drain it completely to do that as snatching with freezing water coming at you makes my arse start twitching. I’ll go up in the loft on Monday. I wasn’t in the mood today!! I just needed to turn the water off.

oh I've just re read your post, the drain off is not working, right, OK this is what I'd do, put towels around the drain off, attach the hose, unscrew the full working out you will have to pull it with pliers because the washer is stuck to the body inside, If the washer is still stuck inside used a screwdriver to get it out, once the washer is out screw the brass but back in and have a brew while it drains the cylinder, You'll only spill a small amount on the floor,

Similar to Tom but I have a plug I push into the hose connection point to limit the escaping water from that point and then I remove the drain cock internals - that way I know I’ve got control as it’s leaking from the point I wish it to leak from and have the gear at hand to deal with that appropriately .

I think that this is what you are getting at rocky - to fully syphon the cylinder you need to get the hose inside the cylinder right to the bottom for a complete drain so you can work on that drain valve without flooding the place.
NB The bath is not normally low enough to do this. I'd open the upstairs window and chuck the hose pipe outside (you need a long leg and a short leg to syphon). It's easier to start the syphon with the pipe halfway down the cylinder then push it to the bottom once the syphon is running.

Should be ok. Just a bit of messing about.

Sorted the immersion. Wouldn’t budge so heated it up & hit it with a hammer. All ok. Found another leak under the bath. Fixed that. Siphoned from the top & wet vac to suck it to start. Cut a 28x28x15 tee in & soldered on a new drain off. Refilled, checked for leaks & drained down again as it’s vacant house being sold. All ok.
