Hi. I'm trying to remove a rad for decorating. I tried turning the trv clockwise to 0 but it only goes to the frost setting. The trv is a Comap branded one. My question is can I remove the rad on the frost setting? If not how do i remove it? also on lock shield side do i turn it clock wise and remember how many turns? Many thanks

You'll be fine if the radiators are not going to be off for any length of time just using that frost setting. I'd cap it off though if left overnight (there's a trick using a coin along with the cone and nut off the radiator for doing this). It's probably a good idea to note the number of turns on the lock-shield although I don't think that I would have ever bothered to do so .

nice one rocky, the ole 5p blanck trick, Rocky's used a 15mm nut with a 5p as a blank and I'm guessing a 1/2 fibre washer behind it, It works good, I think I did a toms tip about it,
I've found it,

yes did that thanks. what do you do on the locksheld valve side as the nut is bigger. The trv side its 15mm or 1/2'' and the lock shied side its bigger.

I think toms just giving you another method aj instead of capping each end you could if you wanted join the ends together.
I'm sure a 2p or 10p coin will fit into the larger nut on the lock-shield side, however, with no frost stat on the lock-shield side it's not really worth the effort unless it drips.

perhaps i should exp[lain further that, you can't just put a 3/4 nut or blank direct in the valve because, they are not always a 3/4 thread, some are a fine thread and will not mate up, So you need to use the nut that comes with the valve, IE,,the one on the tail,

a lock shield will normally shut down so I should be ok, the trv's can open as the room goes cold, ( they are doing their job) and will flood the room so, thats whu its important to cap a TRV,
