HI. Removed washing machine as it packed in. There is a long black vertical 40mm pipe going into a bend and then underneath kitchen units. I can't see a machine trap. Should there be a trap? Is here a reason why there isn't one?

sounds like a DIY or lazy plumber installation aj, Yes there should be a trap,

You removed an existing wm and found no trap? There must be trap somewhere or you'd have smelt it by now. Maybe a running trap somewhere. Any pics?

No it can't work on an angle aj, You can get a dry trap or a shallow running trap, which ever is easiest to fit

If you can’t get to the trap or pipework can’t you hook the hose Ito the sink waste or is the washing machine far away?
