A couple of weeks ago a friend phoned me and said his rads keep coming on when he puts the hot water, so I said your three port valve is knackered.(I know the system). He rents the property so contacts the landlord to get it sorted. Anyway he phoned me earlier and said the guy was there all day draining the system and fucking about and when he left he put the hot water on and the rads came on. smiley-laughing021 the guy has spent all day doing a quick job and put the valve on the wrong way round.

I've only ever had the valve head faulty, why did he drain it down?

I always change the whole unit for two reasons, I only carry one brand anyway and there are so many types now you'd be running to the suppliers all the time and it avoids call backs replacing the complete unit.If the guy bunged the tank he'd been in and out in no time.

battle,,sometimes the brass part of the valve seizes and if you only change the top or the motor it just fucks the top up again, Obviously I don't know the brass bit was siezed but thats a reason why he might have, but there's still no need to drain off, any plumber worth his salt would bung the tank and air lock the system, the lad what did this a numpty as PB says, only a numpty or stevie wonder would put one on the wrong way, blind
