Hi chaps,Is it a bad idea to boss into a cast stack? How would you go about sealing it? Best way of drilling the hole? Do you just use a plastic strap boss? Or is it best to cut section out and use plastic?

I've seen them done with a strap boss and silicone or some other sealant. Never done it that way myself though. I'd be wanting a plastic boss section cutting in if it was on my house. In situations like this I often get the customer to commit, I'd say I can try a strap boss which will be a good bit cheaper, but you may be calling me back at a later date, or I can cut a new section in now but it will be £xx more. That way you can't really go wrong.

The fittings, if you cut say a straight piece out, I take it you've got to remove the top or bottom bit up or down to slip these into place?
Am I missing something?

Cheers Tom. I like the black rubber ones. Like slip couplers.
Thx

Does the carbide holesaw cut through cast ok? Can you use 1 1/2 inch for waste pipe into cast with these fittings? ☺

yes you can use these for up to 2 inch waste but you need a bigger hole saw, arfer's link is for a 22mm, you'll need a 50mm, Depending on the grade of cast iron you might struggle cutting the hole, it also is a tricky job off a ladder, www.lawson-his.co.uk/draper-34940-tcghsp-expert-48mm-tungsten-carbide-grit-hole-sawI'd just like to add, I've never tried these cutters so i don't know how good they are but they're not expensive so maybe worth a try,
