I've been caught out a few times normally with the ball- o-fix iso's on the older ones the middle shoots out. my mentor always taught me to locate the main isolation points and make sure they function, no good having water pissing out everywhere and not having a clue where the stop cock is. smiley-sad056 nay ...

another thing i did recently, I was fitting some bathmixer taps, turned the water off at the mains, turned the gatevalve off in the cylinder cupboard and open the downstairs sink to drain off the water, went to change the bath taps and fuck me the cold is tank fed, and of course as always the cold was the furthest away from me, I'd unscewed the nut right off and the water was held back because the seal did not break till I waggled the pipe to free it, then GUSHHHHHHH, oh fuck, I could only reach with one hand, the nut had slid right down so I had to let go of the pipe to find the nut so GUSSSSSSh again for a few seconds, even though it was only seconds the water went right down betwwen the boards and through the ceiling and the woman screamed AHHHHH there's water coming out the cieling, thats all you need a panicing woman, plumbing sure beats desk jockeying for a good time,,

I turned the water back on after fitting a bath and went back upstairs to have a look if everything was shipshape and water tight (it wasn't). So now I'm back down the stairs at full pelt as the water starts to drip through the kitchen ceiling immediately below were the stop tap is and as I'm turning the water off it's actually dripping through the ceiling onto my head !!!

There wasn't enough room to freeze it so said to my mate I'll just cut it off and snatch a new stopcock on, his wife went into panicking mode so he sent her around the neighbours for a brew.Hardly any mess was made. Bloody women.

Last job what went wrong for me was changing the hot water incert on a bathroom bath tap - incert super tight so put the bar on my spanner - hot water cylinder is isolated by the gate valve in the airing cupboard so happy to proceed what's to worry about!
Then snap, the tap shears off the bath and hot water starts to flow behind the bath and by the time I've got the twat under control the customer kitchen ceiling has a three foot bow in it.
The customer took it well but one of those jobs by the time I corrected the damage you wonder why you bothered getting out of bed.

Was fitting a new bathroom in a house last year, The stopcock wouldn't completely shut the water off so as a temporary measure I left the kitchen tap turned on ( drip every second) Had to nip out to get summat from our local plumbing merchants. Was gone about 3/4 of an hour and came back to find water dripping through the kitchen ceiling. Lady of the house had turned off the kitchen tap, allowing it to fill up to the bathroom. Luckily it had managed to wet the plasterboard ceiling enough to drip slightly. Still needed to dry out and get coated with Zinnser Bin before re-painting.

Dead right there PB.........I had a little incident the other day when i was removing the air from a cylinder primary circuit , i slowly unscrewed the manual air vent cap and the fucker blew straight off never to be found again , lucky for me i had a roll of insulation tape in my pocket which was pulled out and applied swiftly to stem the flow while i legged it down to the van for a replacement cap , luckily those things all seem to be the same make and size so it was a life saver to get the new one on pronto..............
