So, Toms now tried bubble gum to seal a thread
PTFE is obviously a firm favourite but as said you can't back the fitting with it.
This leads me to Loctite. I've used it. It works.
Any views on it?
While we're on the subject what do people prefer to put on a compression fitting? Paste? LSX? Nothing?
Thx all

locktite works, the problem is getting the fitting off later, you often have to heat the fitting up to get it off,
most of the time I don't use anything exept on chrome valves, i use paste on them,

You do need a bit of paste on chrome fittings. I don't know why but you often get a leak on chrome without any paste, whereas with brass it's normally fine. It must be the hard chrome coating itself that makes it difficult to seal plus you don't really want to mark it with your footies whilst giving that bit of extra humph to fix the drip!
"Jet Blue Plus" is the paste we use it's suitable for mains water and gas (very much like the old "Boss White" was once.

I'm old Skool, Boss White(generic name) on all compression olives. PTFE on most threads, but being a wee bit adventurous of late; Liquid PTFE etc, but as Tom says any glue type joint on threads, you need heat to get the fuckers apart!! Locktite 55 string is good for backing-off a thread, to line up a fitting or tap etc.

I've never tried it too, I imagine its a ' new world ' hemp, hemp was/is good for screwed joints because it expands with water, so you can back off a fiting and it will stay tight, but hemp is no good for domestic water, smiley-chores011washing

The quality of threads is shocking now!! Material generally is shyte. I mainly use the Loctite 55 for the likes of outside taps. Screw the wallplate elbow on the wall, pipe it up & if you use 55 on the tap thread there's no problem with alinement of the tap. That Screwflux Liquid PTFE is great for that too, but it's best left a few minutes before putting the water on.
Some threads you'd never get water tight without a bit of hemp & Boss White.

I've only ever used liquid PTFE once yearks ago on a heating system and it worked fine, never seen it since in Bum Center or PTS would 100% use it again.
