You're right there Tom. This one was the thermal switch and solenoid coil and you have to strip the whole thing out. smiley-chores037 binsout

Another item where I find the plastic becomes very brittle with a bit age - another item when replaced don't work well as an alternative just an original replacement item.
That course of tiles with the tiling trim is odd any reason for that PB?

It's something I'd like to know, how to diagnose & repair all showers - electric & others.

I think the two parts I fitted rocky were about £20 and the shower unit is over £300 I believe ( Mira azora) if it were a cheapy I'd given the plumberboy love and smiley-chores037 binsout it.
