I know lets see what happens if you put a 22 mm endstop on the vent pipe from a d.h.w cylinder then switch it on? Cheers tom, your best pal b.b p.s.love your mythbuster movies.

the bread in the pipe does work, back in the day we all used to do it on lead. the trouble is the bread does break down but can also find its way into the ballcocks and stop the bog working or the DHW tank,

Call me a know all, but as long as you still have an open feed to the cylinder any expansion will retreat back up that, but if its isolated off as well as capping the vent BB gets blown up.

Once the bread gets baked inside the lead pipe it's solid! I've even had to disconnect it at the 4u and push a wire down the pipe to get the water back on (it was holding full mains pressure)!!
I've not forgot about filming the tip about transferring the heat away from a joint then quickly back when a joint won't run because of a slight amount of water. It's just difficult to think how to set this one up though.
