Hope someone can help, i need to replace an old cast iron manhole lid, having altered my garage to make a small utillity room i have ended up with this old cover in there an i dont think its air tight because there is a faint shitey wiff coming from it and its most off putting to mrs magnet when shes doing the washing.
The drain is clear and free running and in an attempt to stop the drainy wiff i have filled the rebate in the cast manhole frame with grease and its helped a bit. My problem is being a 30's semi the internal size of the frame doesn't match new rectanglar lids it is approx 650 mm x 500mm im wondering if i should be measuring the actual in ternal size ofthe frame any light shed on this ,most welcome...............Cheers lads........... What's the crack with man holes?
If you want an extension for example & there's a manhole there you obviously wouldn't want that in you lovely new extended kitchen.
So do you need to inform the council & reroute? Cover it & forget? Or something else?

So do you need to inform the council & reroute? Cover it & forget? Or something else? Sometimes they can be moved if not you need airtight lids and certain access points according to building regs.

I've fitted this type before to cure the problem of nasty odours on a similar type of problem when grease just wouldn't solve it when using the original old cast unit - in my case I got a local fabricator to modify it to suit the opening www.clark-drain.com/files/products/464.pdf
