hi guys sorry this question is nothing to do with plumbing but i am sure a lot of you can give me advice on this. Here goes my question is with regards to getting receipts off people who do work for you. Recenty had a stairlift engineer come out to fix a stair lift.he fixed it for me and charged me £80 callout which was agreed on the phone before he came out. i gave him the money and asked for a receipt.he said one of the other guys has got the receipt book in van, when he will be in the area he will post it through letterbox. The 2nd time he came i forgot to ask him for the receipt but paid him his £80. he was called around a third time charged £80 no receipt given. was called again the fourth time charged £80 agian no receipt given. now i have phoned him and said i need receipts as proof as the work has beeen done. he said he doesnt give receipts to the general public as he only works for commercial.i didn't kick off as i desperately need the receipts i said please can you give me the receipts or a letter saying i have paid for and had repairs done to my stairlift. this was tow weeks ago. what shoul ido? you are porobaly thinking why did i keep on using this chap but when your so depentant on the stairlift and nobody else can come out for a few days, you have no choice.many thanks

If you need the documentation to reclaim the expense then I see your need. However, if it's for historical purposes for repairs to your stairlift then just keep a note in the appropriate place within your filing system.
If your happy with your repairer and it's not the same fault he's being called out for, I can only assume if you persist in your request for a receipt for each repair I think the bill will have an uplifted in its nature for at the VAT content of 20%.

Well I fully understand your need for the missing paperwork. I suggest you contact your council and explain your current situation, they may have a procedure for paperwork which hasn't been available from a tenant who's had work done. Also ask them to provide you with their list of approved repair agents who are competent at stairlift repairs and that can invoice the council directly or only take payment by debit card - reason being you've tried to get the previous repair invoices posted to you and aren't having any success in doing so!

In simple terms when you pay for ANY goods or services you're entitled to a receipt
That's the law - end of
If you agree cash then no receipt will Probably be given

i phoned him again today he was making excuses about being busy and he would give me a letter and basically fobbing me off and worming his way out of it. my brother took over the the phone introduced himself and said we are legally entitled to receipts or a letter or some proof and the guy just disconnected the phone. the only reason he is still picks my phone up is coz he thinks i will be giving him more work the foocking foocker. would he have liked it if i got the work done and not paid him or started haggling with the price. the fooking basterd i wonder how many other vulnerable people he has messed about. i could easily beat the shite out of him but i have not been brought up like that. the weasel the waanker the fooker
