Went to an old cylinder this morning to change the immersion and it doesn't happen very often but you just know the tanks going to give and not the immersion. smiley-sad056 nay I tried to shock it with the old club hammer and I tried heating it up and using the big boy grips and I could see the boss twisting,,,,,new tank time. you can't polish a turd.

been there PB, I always warn the custerd that it can happen, some of the old guys used 'red lead' sometimes mixed with putty, they've been in 40 years plus, there's no way that fucker is coming out, smiley-sad056 nay

Yes it's not high on my list of jobs which I feel will go the way I wish - even ones just thread taped or fibre washer don't always give in before the tank fails.

Modern cylinders are so thin these days and fold in very easily.
The last couple I did I had to patch the cylinder with solder after the cylinder creased.

Once helped my son in law remove a hot water cylinder from a closed down hospital near here. The cylinder was about 12ft high and about 6 or 7 ft in diameter. We had to cut it up to get it weighed in. Copper was about 4mm thick and at final weigh in, bagged over £3000, in the bank. 6XqEngr88r5GlWolCJDi

Sadly it had to be shared between us . Me and my younger brother went up a few weeks later removing piping on two days and the first day we weighed in £700 worth and the second we excelled ourselves with £980. I feel sorry for the patients in this hospital, they must of been freezing and thirsty.

Yep. It was being knocked down. Great huge Victorian place.. Now a housing estate (has been for about 4 yrs now)
