that's a wide open question, each plumber will have a dirrerant choice, When I fitted them and the customer wanted a good budget priced boiler, I'd no hesitation in fitting a Baxi/potterton/main 28, they're very good, reliable, easy to fix/service,the parts are cheap and easy to get to, If the customer wanted the best and did't mind paying, I'd fit a Vailient, the Vaileint is much more expensive and its a quieter, thats the only thing I can say it beats the baxi on, its quieter, In my mind the Baxi is as good in every other way, but some folk have it in their head that , you only get what you pay for and its not ALWAYS true,

Glowworm are made by Vailient , they are better now than they used to be the old glowworms had their problems, One thing I don't like about glowworm are, they have a lot of plastic parts and they are prone to leaking after the warrantee has run out, and they are a pig to replace, smiley-violent001 hammertime

they remodelled all their boiler a few years ago and they seem ok now, I never had the confidence to fit them because the old ones where very unreliable, but the new ones are getting good reports,

I'm far from a leading authority aj, but my job is mainly boilers on new builds. Combis, Heats & systems. it depends a lot on your budget & preference. Most boilers have pros & cons.
The Ideal Logic Combi range are fitted in loads of new builds. I like them, very easy to install, service & repair. In my experience there's been a small number of problems, I mean small!! I look after 100s & I think I've had 1 or 2 leaking sumps, 1 noisy gas valve & that's about it. The Ideal Vogue is a cracking Combi.
A lot of Combis now have plastic & it's not good. It just means it's a 'short life' appliance. A manufacturer like Ravenheat have tried to address this, their Combi boilers are great value & there's a lot of copper/brass in them. Then there's the likes of Intergas, their Rapid is good value too. Only 4 moving parts & copper pipes in an alloy heat exchanger is a great selling point.

I went for the Baxi Duo Tech.
A mid-priced contract boiler is how I would describe it.
It's all the firm that I work for fit these days, so I figured I could get spares easily when it eventually starts to go wrong.
The lads who work on them say there is good access to get to all the parts, some boilers are right pigs to get access to.
A grey condense pipe which splits and leaks all over the electrics is a popular fault, this I understand has now been modified to a black one of a much better quality and there is some trouble with expansion vessels failing I'm told.
I've had mine for 16 months now with no problems at all.
Tappy,

you could also say the heat exchanger, its not a moving part, but water moves inside and it defo goes wrong also the pcb is not a moving part but there's electric moving across it and that goes wrong too, so saying there's only 4 moving parts is giving a false description, I've given that argument before on shitfix, Walter never argued the point but carried on with the ' its only got 4 moving parts' campaign like the loonie he is,,,
