Raditor under window? Or away from window? smiley-confused002asak2 I was always taught to install them under windows as the cold air at the window falls down and gets heated,,although they are called radiators they don't radiate heat but work on convection,,,but I was taught the old way so some numbty has probably changed the game.

Agree with PB, Also, you're not likely to have furniture in front of your window so having the rad there leaves more wall space in the room for furniture.

under the window every time for me, as others have said 1. heat escapes through the window, the rad under the window sets up thermal movement though out the room, 2. furnture, if you put a rad on another wall, furiture will stop it working efficently,

I agree as well, under windows.
The argument for on the wall stems from when full length curtains were in fashion. Close the curtains and all the heat from the radiator escapes out of the window. I seem to remember the gas board pushing this one home in a TV advert campaign in the late 70s, I didn't agree with it even back then.

yes, under window every time for me, I know its wrong to dry washing on the radiators but when it bad weather and the washing needs drying, needs must, and if the rad is behind the settee or a cabinet, Its not convenient,

Our living room radiator is currently under the window. It's being moved in July to an internal wall as we're having patio doors put in. (and before you ask, they ain't being put in by an Irish double glazing salesman)
