Got a call out yesterday from a couple I've done a bit of work for in the past. They'd had a new smart meter fitted but the installer had capped the supply because there was a big drop on the pressure test. I also did the test and it was losing 8mbar in the two minutes so had a look around and found the pipework split into two parts - one to the kitchen and the other into the rest of the house. I got my sniffer out and eventually found a gas leak under a restrictor elbow in the dining room. I capped the branch of pipework heading into the house and now the pressure holds up. I've not fitted one of these elbows before: www.bes.co.uk/media/catalog/product/1/i/1in-x-8-mm-x-1-4in-pedestal-elbow-restrictor-chrome-plated_6108_L_1.jpgAttachment DeletedHow will the pipework connect up into the bottom, assuming it's run in 15mm? And just to make things harder, it's popping up out of a sold floor.

Thanks, Tom - so the chrome part shown in my original post will just be twisted down on to a threaded tube underneath - I've not even tried to move the thing yet. Could be something as simple as needing a bit of PTFE around the thread. Do they all tend to be 3/8"? Thinking of getting something to temporarily cap it with the restrictor elbow off to make sure it's not leaking further down the pipework.

yea they are all 3/8 and it won't move easy, if you try to unscrew in situ, it will twist the copper or lead pipe behind it, You'll need to get a purchace on the fitting behind it, then like you say ptfe and fix back on,

Let's hope there's a bit of play in the pipework then so I can lift it a bit.
