changing ballvalves in attics/lofts, Its never been an easy job, you need a ladder/steps,light and its from the top of the house to the bottom, the bottom to shut off the water and the top to do the work, yes, there SHOULD be a isolation on the ballvalve but its not always so, I usually fit one if there's none there, not everyone does, But today the enviroment have decided to GIVE everybody extra loft insulation, because its free people have it done, its a nightmare for us plumbers, we can't see where to step, its itchy and gets in your throat and nose, its good news in a way because back in the day the man of the house would do it, now he'll call us cos its a shite job, but its gone up accordingly, I quote £80 minimum now, a few years ago I'd do one for £35

Too true tom. Plumbers should be thankful for the arrival and popularity of the combi' boiler, making these loft jobs few and far between these days. As an apprentice I remember getting a right bollocking for not laying the roof insulation and tucking it in between the joists. Grant jobs would also fail inspection if a walkway had not been constructed to give easy access to the tanks. Changing times. Tappy,

I would not get into a loft to do any job for less than a £100 , its just not worth it for the hassle you know your going to have.... !

good on ya pipeslice, I have to admit that I don't get many now , As soon as I quote £80 there's a silence followed by "ok I'll have a word with my partner when he/she gets home " and thats the end of that inquiry
