Amazed at the variance in prices at different suppliers of gate valves where I live for example one place wants £3.50 and another wants £14 for basically the the same thing i just need a couple for my loft water tank - here's the question do you get what you pay for or shall I get the basic cheap price ones? cheers in advance for all replies willo.

yes willo its the same ole dilema, " do i pay the extra for peice of mind?" I always get the best quality available for the least amount of money, in other words in this case I'd get the £3.50 valve, you're only going to use them a few times in its lifetime, so why pay more, things you use wveryday are worth the extra but not everything, I hope that helped you willo, feel free to come back anytime and ask anything you like,

I prefer lever valves. Although I know full way gate valves are what's recommended
Lever valves get my vote.
What's your view Tom?

I like lever valves too but they're not always practical cos of room and its too easy for kids and numpty's to play with but they're exellent for shutting off and giving full flow,

Talking about gate valves , i did a job about 6 months ago after a home owner got my number from a friend and he rang me telling me that to save money he had changed a leaking valve on his cold tank in the loft and now there was no water coming out and could i help him ,i called by that evening to have a butchers and found that he had replaced his gate valve with a stop cock , after i explained to him what he had done he said , but the guy in B&Q said thats what i needed to do the job , remarkable , any way i sorted it for him and he realised that it would have cost less to use a plumber in the first place.....

What I find with the gate valves is they seize - the customer snaps the gate cause it's never be operated since the original install and refuse to believe it's broken internally since nothing's dropped off in their hands.
