Hello all
Soil stacks................I'm only half way through my level 2 plumbing course and I'm not too clever. I have an old iron soil stack which I guess would be less than 4", the modern toilet is 4", so there is a Macalpine pan connecter which tries to marry the two together. But not very well as we get blockages and leaks......but I am proficient with a drain rod. I just wonder how to improve things....Do I replace soil stack with 4" plastic one?.....that seems quite scary and I imagine it would be very difficult - and if I did do this should I 'boss it' or go underground with full new pipe.? Perhaps put toilet on plinth to create more fall or is there a magic-wand pan-connector on the market.? The toilet backs onto the connector and soil stack with no bends but...........4" to 3.5" is always going to create a bottle-neck, right? I don't know but advice would be greatly appreciated.

The best way is take it all out right back to the drain but don't get too worried about it, there are many 3 inch soils still in use all over the country, there is a magic wand, eat plenty curry, When I was a lad everyone used newspaper to wipe their backside, so you would expect blockages abound everywhere, but there was't, 4 inch copes with houses with 2 bathrooms and 2 ensuites clockroom and in a road full of big houses the drain connecting them is only 4 inch as well, So 3 inch for one toilet is not going to block all that often, If it is, there's a problem inside causing it,
