Is heating your whole home with gas central heating more efficient than heating one room with a gas fire?

Is heating your whole home with gas central heating more efficient than heating one room with a gas fire? You can work out the heat loss with calculations if you know the energy output of the fire & rad.

I would say heating just one room will always be more cheaper than heating an whole house.
However, all central heating boilers will shut off when they reach temperature thus costing nothing until they switch back on again, whilst a gas fire will keep going all the time until you switch it off.
Say two gas fires heating two rooms then the boiler should have caught up and may even be cheaper.
That's my take on it anyway.

heating one room is CHEAPER for sure, but its not efficent, If you live on your own and spent most of the time in one room, yes its a good thing, but if its a busy house with people coming and going all the time, the heat will just leave the room, heat will always go to try and warm the cold bits up,

Most gas fires use a chimney as a flue & most of the heat goes up that chimney. So if you have a condensing boiler thats >80% efficiency, then using the CH will probably be cheaper, well, in a small homes anyway. A lot of OAPs will sit in one room with a gas fire blasting away & no heat in the adjoining rooms. Which is a bit crazy really, Heat goes to cold - so if they heated the unoccupied rooms a wee bit it would be better.
Thats just my personal view, of course it’s always nice to sit at a fire.
