ENDFEED OR SOLDER RING FITTINGS ?
I mainly use endfeed but find solder ring fittings handy for tight spaces, I used some recently in the back of a narrow cupboard where I was altering pipework.

If they were the same price, I'd use solder ring all day, why the heck wouldn't you? Most of the time endfeed, but like you say, where it's difficult to see round the back or to get the solder round the back, solder ring come in handy. I do pretty snotty soldering on hidden pipework so don't care what fitting I use, exposed pipework though, the kind I may Brasso after doing it, I'd use endfeed as it looks more pro (probably only to other plumbers tho )

In agreement JC.
However, if you price up for them it could be the difference between getting or not getting the job so for most plumbers I guess it's end feed these days (there was once a time though)!

Endfeed
I always add solder to solder ring anyway as I don’t trust them

My house was built in 1961 and all the plumbing was done with solder ring as were all the houses on the estate. I always wondered why, but maybe it was because plumbing was a harder, heavier job in those days (cast stacks, bending large copper waste pipes, cast iron baths, etc, etc) that they took any chance to make their jobs a little bit easier. Also wondered if it may be because the torches might not have been so good in those days and this meant solder ring were easier to use.
For me, same as others - e/f by choice, but s/r for tight spaces where I can only get one hand in with the torch.

if all the houses were done in solder ring, its a good bet the council were involved in the building of it, they always had a little hitler clerk of works who made the rules, the fittings, the clips and even the flux, they did not like self cleaning flux in fact they did't like anything new, Round here all heating boilers had to have gravity circs, dinosaurs they were, smiley-sad056 nay

Must have been it then Tom. Solves the mystery. Strangely I don't like self cleaning flux. On endfeed I use Templars Telux as it seems to flow better. I use Laco on solder ring, because it seems to work better on them. Us Southerners are a strange bunch.
