the washers won't do any harm, neither will paste, If you like rules,,you're supposed to fit a valve as well, but like we say on here, rules are for fools, as long as its gas tight, its safe,

I never have endfeed christ, if you knew the procedure to disconnect a meter following rules, it goes like this
before touching a meter or any pipework test for voltage, when sattisfied place a clamping wire from the inlet to the outlet, turn off the gas test for leaks doing a tightness test, open all the doors, windows, if theres any burglars about warn them, " keep away you motherfuckers, I taking the meter off here " undo the unions and take off the meter, carefull not to jog it about, take it directly out doors and make sure no ones smoking, watch for gypo's nicking it, now charge the pipework with inert gas to flush all the gas out, do the work, replace the gas meter, careful not to jog it, make sure the area all around for 200 miles is free of smokers, turn the gas on, test for leaks with manometer, purge the gas, and again make sure there are no smokers in 200 square miles, If all tight, turn on, Phew,,, give um the bill.
