Can I trouble you knowlegable gentlemen on here for some advice? I had a quick look at an old vented system the other day and couldn't find anywhere to drain down. The rads are all upstairs, and the boiler is downstairs at the lowest point. There's no hw cylinder at present - looking to add one.
As the boiler - old Thorn Olympic - is the lowest point, would there be a drain off somewhere on the boiler? Only other option I can see is maybe remove the pump which is just above the boiler, and drain through the valves. But what could I attach to the valves to drain out through a hose?
Any ideas, 'cos I'm scratching my head.

there just might be one on the boiler, if not you're in for a struggle, getting the pump off is likley to be a struggles as well but that is a good option if the pump does come off the nuts on the valves are inch and half female iron, same size as a bath waste or sink waste, So you need a male iron inch and half fitting going to 15mm, you probably won't get that in one fitting and space is tight, so here's toms top tip,
get a unslotted bath waste, saw the head off square, one side will fit into the pump valve and put a bath trap on the other, then 40mm push waste to outside,
it will drain quick as fuck,,,

If the pump valves are a twat to undo then you can either bung the system or freeze it and cut in a compression tee with a drain off fitted in it, it won't drain as quick as Tom's idea though.

and if there's a 15mm cold feed going to the boiler you can cut in a 'strap on diy washing machine valve' then connect a hose pipe to that,

We bunged a tank on Friday. It was icy as fuck, my arm was aching, next time it’s polar freeze out as customers expense as the spray is £20 a tin. Brrrrrr..... icy
