Following on from Tom's video about soldering with water in the pipe, I was wondering if anyone had heard about these dissolvable plugs that you push in the pipe to temporarily stop the water. Only seem to be available in US. Better than bread, because I suppose the bread could cause problems if it went the wrong way. Looks like they work out at $2 each plug, but they could be worth it in time saved on getting water out of pipes and bad joints.

bread was common to use when sweating lead joints, It worked good but it would find its way to a ballvalve and you'd need to clear it out by stripping the ballvalve and clearing out the 'trumpet'. In todays new fangle inlet valves it would probably fuck the valve up, I would think that yankee doodle dandy wax bar will be similar, If I ever see one to buy, We'll give it the myth buster test,

A very interesting find Woody.
However, my opinion is, If there was mileage in them plugs as a product we would see them readily for sale, as the failed joint due to steam is dead time and certainly costs more than the plug!

that would have a few uses, like finding a gas leak, cut off and blank with that and eliminate sections of pipe, Its a usefull tool, Ill have a look round for one,
