Have basin mixer tap, hot side weeps. Took apart but the valve is stuck tight. Can’t use grips as it’s inside body a little so box spanner is the only way. Tried with force but tap all comes loose.
Is it a case of tap off & out in vice or another trick?
Tried wd40, won’t budge.

I very rarely fail to get a tap valve out with one of a few deep sockets I have, got them from a car parts shop, main ones I use are 17mm and 18mm. Sometimes need to use a box spanner to extend the socket spanner and get more leverage. Hardest part is not moving the tap in its hole, if you protect the tap though and lever against that you put almost no stress on the sink. Hard to describe it really, if I remember I'll video the next stubborn one I have. I have had a couple though that beat me, one had been in 60 years according to the customer, the other one had already been rounded off by previous attempts. I may invest in an easy tap splitter but I reckon it's too expensive for what it is. Wouldn't help you in this case anyway as the flats are shrouded.

At the moment at work I'm on repairs, get loads of tap jobs,I've invested in the easy tap splitter and it's the dogs bollox for getting the valve out, your right about price j.c they are damn expensive!for someone like me to whip in take valve out and move on its worth it.not having to Pratt about with bath panels!it gets the thumb s up from me,if i was self employed I wouldn't bother because new taps makes good dosh👍👍👍

Much the same as JCplumb - I typically use 3/8 drive long reach 5 flank Impact sockets 17 mm with ratchet and extensions to suit - wood to lock the tap in place - each job is different in its nature but if no ones been there before you I've not been beaten for a long time.

Here’s a pic As you can see the nut is within so grips won’t work Box spanner fits but so tight that whole tap turns Don’t want to scratch it Cheers

I had one similar to that just before xmas. Chocked some wood behind it to stop it moving while undoing it, I still braced the tap with my other hand while undoing it tho. When I got it out it was an obscure cartridge that cost £35 each from franke, think I used tapmagician to get a set for it for about £20. If it hadn't been a £200 tap I'd would of just swapped the whole thing out. Have since avoided franke because of the rip off parts prices.
Don't bang your head against the wall too much mate, it'll deflate you. Give it another go, if it doesn't come out tell them it's new tap time.

It’ll fit Dave but the fitting of the socket isn’t the big issue
It’s the valve & tap movement when pressure is applied to try to undo the bigger.

On that style of tap I use a piece of wood this shape Rocky, which works for me and the ones I've had similar. Attachment Deleted
