Sometimes when you open them they don’t drain, the rubber is stuck etc.
I once undid one & stuck a screwdriver up to dislodge the rubber. Big mistake as black water gushed & it was panic stations!
So, if you’ve not got another drain valve anywhere how do you get them draining?
Give it a tap? Undo the main body a bit & hope it starts?
It’s something we all should know I think,
Cheers all

The big problem with drain offs is people overtighten them and you dont need to, just tweak it up.

How about on a pressurised system?

How about on a pressurised system? Just dump the pressure through the PRV or rad vent and then same principle applies. If you're really unsure then remove a rad and drain down through a rad valve mate.

another thing with drain off, Some plumbers solder them in with the washer screwed up, this welds the washer to the brass, So the first plumber to work on it has to free it by digging the rubber out,

good man rocky, some plumbers know its wrong but don't give a fuck, and some plumbers have never been shown to take the washer out, It might be years before they realize why some drain offs won't undo, smiley-whacky057 jackbox

If you had a faulty drain off to a cylinder, would you attempt to pick out the washer or find another way?? thinking about the volume of water that can come at you💪

9 out of ten times I will syphon from the top, Even if the drain off works, some twat will trip on a hose from it, that will drag it off, if your doing something else and don't see it, they'll' blame you, if the kick off a syphon pipe, it will stop,

Evening Gentlemen!! I know there’s been a huge void due to my absence, which can only be put down to my February Mega Bender! Yes, some will bet horses & lose money - where as me; I drink whisky, cider, Buckfast & lose days/weeks!! But hey I’m philosophical about it.
Any Road, the time old problem of the fucked washer in the MT drain cock. Here’s what I do, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t: Unscrew the fucker, remove the jumper, PTFE around the thread & refit. Get a small screwdriver in the spout & try to lever the fucked washer off the seat, if she starts to flow water, get a hose on quickly. I hope that helps & brings a little light into the darkness of your despair.
