This was one of the projects I remember doing at collage for my city and guilds. Even back then we all questioned the validity of doing it. I bet you didn't put it quite so politely back then either.

yep, more like, " what the fuck are we doing this for, I'd just buy the proper fitting" would be a reaction in the classroom, Only such as myself ,Fred Dibner and Heath robinson would spend all day making a fitting worth two shillings,To us its an art, a survival craft that is fast dying out, We are Luddites,,

I did own one & used it a few times, but some bastard stole it!!
Working on commercial jobs; Hotels etc, we’d use it to tee into large main lines(54,67,76,108mm copper tube) to branch off to new en-suites for example. Never use solder though, the joint is not deep enough or strong enough. Phosphate rods & MAPP Gas or Oxy/Acyt bottles.
