Got a customer with an old Main gas multipoint that sounds like it needs replacing. Is a new Main the best option or are there better/cheaper options? Rinnai seem cheaper, but know nothing about them.
The old one may be fixable, but I have no experience with these things. Customer says it still heats water, but when they want to turn the hot tap off, they have to turn the boiler otherwise it keeps heating with no flow going through boiler.
Always grateful for any advice.

they are pretty simple to fix, everything is worked by the valve, water moves through the valve moves a diaphram and that lets in the gas, So replacing that valve will probably fix it, there no electric or sensors, theres no magic,no fan no jiggerpokery, I've never priced that valve but I'm guessing it will be a fair wack of wedge cos thats the engine room of the boiler, I've never heard of the other water heater but those main heaters are very good,
So i'd price the valve first, then decide whether to fettle it or change the whole heater,

Thanks Tom, appreciate your advice.
Yes, you're right. Gas valves are around 300 notes and not much choice of supliers, so no real bargains on Ebay, etc. I haven't seen the heater yet - going Saturday. I had hoped there would just be a replaceable flow sensor, etc, but if new heaters are available for £400+ it doesn't make sense to put a whole new valve on an old heater.
Will have a look at it and let you know how I get on.

You're right woody, not worth fixing, just had a quick butchers and see they do a FF flu option now but they are dear for what they are, the BF start at £450, another option would be a unvented cylinder working off lectric depending on demand and how easy it will be to wire,

that looks a bargain Dick, its a bit worrying that a flue does't come with it and the instructions say Things you need to know Although they are easy to be installed ,I do recommend a Qualified Plumber if you have any doubts. We assume no responsibility whatsoever for the installation of this heater or any damage incurred from its installation or use. Water heater must be installed in ventilated places, or install metal flue to exhaust smoke out. and its made in China and designed for Bedrock, Fred n' Wilber will love it,

This appliance needs someone experienced, qualified & well trained in fitting Gas, GS registered & with the relevent ACS elements.

Thanks for the link Dick, but I'm not sure I could sleep at night fitting a heater from Whan King Industries. Mainly because I only live down the road from the customer, and would probably be within range of the explosion.
