Why on Earth is hemp not available everywhere. Places like plumb centre should carry it in my opinion. Has many advantages over plumbers tape for everything

Back in the 70s I once did a job for a female customer who said to me "I love the way you smell of putty".... AAAAH, just realised that's a totally different story !

Hemp after many years of successful use suddenly overnight hemp became the villain when it was announced to the plumbing trade that bacteria can feed of it. Back in the day a comical workmate called Larry would comb the knot of hemp into a long wig and put it on his head and give us all dumb blonde impersonation Really funny, he was quite a character that Larry.

I watch some US plumbing vids and they use something they call pipe dope or Fritz on threaded joints. Looks like thick jointing compound and comes in a pot with brush. Just spread it on the threads - no hemp, etc used - just this paste. Blueish in colour. Used on gas and water,.
Do we have something similar? Seems a lot easier than winding tape, hemp, etc.

we have ptfe in a bottle, just squeeze it in the threads and it seals and sticks like shit to a blacket, Dick know a china supplier of this and we are eagerly awaiting his feedback when it arrives, Many moons ago I worked for a geezer who did sprinklers in Mills, Mostly cotton Mill, He had looms and looms of cotton in his van and he used it for threaded joins, It worked ok, but it did't matter if it did't because the sprinklers are tested and then they are dry unless a fire starts, then they fill from fucking big hoppers and no one goes round looking if they leak when a fires roaring in the Mill, And again, if they leaked thats all to the good because it would just be an extra sprinkler,

The US plumber I've seen on Youtube uses stuff that looks like Tru Blu - even same tin. He puts it on any threaded joint, water, gas, oil, etc. Never seen him use tape, hemp, jointing comp. Always seals well.
