The US plumber I've seen on Youtube uses stuff that looks like Tru Blu - even same tin. He puts it on any threaded joint, water, gas, oil, etc. Never seen him use tape, hemp, jointing comp. Always seals well. The yanks male and female threads are a tighter fit than ours so the jointing compound has to take up a lesser void, the fittings we have over here are looser than a hookers draws. Do you notice with the yanks that they solder everything ? They don't like compression joints and pushfit. They also fit vacuum breakers to everything it must be a regulation.

I see, that makes sense. Very quick and easy when they do the threaded joints over there. Just brush it on and do up the joint.
Yes, lots of soldering and I don't think they own pipe benders either. Some states require the breakers for the codes that plumbers have to work to. All plumbers are licenced. Those fire trucks must have the mother of all pumps on them if they can collapse a cylinder down the street from where they're pumping.
Always slightly envious of US plumbers having all that space to work. They often have a large cellar with all the boilers, pumps, valves, etc, etc in - the same stuff that we would cram into an airing cupboard.
