I just flux the pipe, I was learned, " don't flux the fitting because it will get inside the pipe and contaminate the water" So I flux the pipe and spin the fitting round to spread it fully on the fitting and pipe,

Today I pulled a fitting apart and there was far to much flux in there!time to switch me thinks๐๐๐ผ

I used to flux both, that's how I was taught so always did until I was told about the fitting flux getting pushed out of the fitting into the system. As Endfeed says above, I pulled a fitting off and had a look after I'd fluxed both and there was pretty much all the flux sat there doing nowt for the joint so changed my ways. If it's an old tarnished fitting I might give it a little smear to clean it up.

I flux pipe A chap I knew just used to dip the pipe in the flux! I see some people put a bit of flux on the end of the solder too I just lightly turn the pipe in the flux then a bit on my solder wire whilst soldering then clean off with a 1/2" brush dipped in flux. If I'm on a good day I'll wipe it down afterwards with a cloth with some meth's on it.
