I got a call ,water through ceiling, upon lifting boards discovered this work of art! I havnt seen this type pushfit before, like a black alkathene, big in 70โs merchant told me. luckily had a little bit of copper tight to wall, to attach onto, and pinched an insert from cut out ,to join a ballofix, so repaired ok. Had sprung a pinhole on centre of forced bend in second pic. Luckily lady was in when it went pop๐

That's "Acorn" pipe and fittings, quite common then and a lot was fitted without inserts and still holding today .

Bartol Acorn mate, a big plus in the 80โs. I made a fucking fortune with that stuff!! The old boys then were like โOh, we only fit copperโ!! Iโm like โListen luv, we can knock ยฃ50 off his price, but weโll be using this new plasticโ. โOK son can you do it next weekโ Kerfuckingching!!๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐บ๐บ๐บ๐บ๐ท๐ท๐ท๐ท๐ท Of course it went tips up when there was a big Court Case across the Pond, it wasnโt a barrier pipe & if memory serves one of the big oil companies got fucked over for billions!!๐๐๐๐
Still come across jobs with it fitted every so often, good as Gold it is too!!
The great Plumbing swindle of the 80โs.......๐๐๐๐๐๐
