Now then, I'll preface this by saying I'm an apprentice, 9 or so months in to it all. So we were in the merchants some time last week and one of the guys I work with was talking to another bloke about how college for apprentices is so different nowadays, one of the main points being that lead work is not taught. It got me to thinking and it's true that as time goes on, all industries change
So lead flashing used to be plumbers work? Nowadays I'm guessing it's a roofers job? Also wiped joints, I'd like to do one one day just for fun, see how things used to be done, but they are against regulation from my understanding? What do you all think of soldering as plastic piping and copper press fit gets more and more popular? Do you think there will ever be a time where soldering ends up being either banned or simply used nowhere near as much/?

no never, lead is our God, the word 'plumber' comes from the latin word plumb, a worker of lead, Lead is a natural material and has now been outlawed by university people who discovered that it can poison us, They never explained how, for thousands of years people drank from lead pipes and only a small percent died of lead poisoning, So once again regulation, pen pushing, desk jockeys make rules for acheiving more money making, the never like skilled men making more than them, so they devalue our skills by making pushfit fittings, Someday, they will be banned too and your 'then day' plumber will be useless,
keep up the tradition of soldering or one day you will be burger flipper in Mac fuckin Donalds, qwerty

I still do Leadwork, great skill required & I love it. Leadburning too, not many rough-as-Fuck Roofers can Leadburn. End Feed fitting for copper tube & soldering will never die, crimp fittings are great - but fucking extortionate!! Heat Risk?? Just glue the fuckers up like I do, lovely job😎😎

When you see some of the roofers attempts at leadwork on new builds ie. corners pigs eared and apron flashings with hammer marks all over staring you in the face the cunts should leave it well alone.

What I find in my local area - the roofers are only happy using code 3 and will if pushed use code 4 but once they have to use 5 and above the say give it back to the plumbers "as it's an art form".
