Got a customer who had his bathroom refurbed a few years ago, now a wet room. Recently every morning there's a puddle round the bottom of his loo, no indication of how it got there. Nothing appears to be leaking, toilet used to overflow, I fixed that a couple of weeks ago thinking overflowing was causing a lot of condensation on the cistern and it was running down, but the puddle is still there every morning. I'm going to be going removing the toilet tomorrow and will strip it and put back together with new parts/seals. But I'm stabbing in the dark really as can't see where the water is coming from. Anyone any ideas?

Check the floor level out side of the shower area j.c, it could be escaping from there and pooling around the bog! My second thoughts are hair line crack in cistern...these are things that I've found when nothing obviouse from bog👍

I had tricky toilet leak with a tiled floor, I eventually found it to be the pan connector to the soil pipe so add that to the list JC.

My second thoughts are hair line crack in cistern...these are things that I've found when nothing obviouse from bog👍 He says the water's there pretty much every morning whether he's used the shower or not the day before. I was thinking hair line crack in cistern or pan but it's only mornings. I mentioned I'd sorted his fill valve, it was a fluidmaster bottom entry and I adjusted the height and it seemed to be better but thinking about it, fluidmasters don't usually fail in a way where decreasing the height of the float fixes it. It may just need the valve replacing. Would explain why it's only morning as it's not been flushed through the night and has time to overfill the cistern. I have a fluidmaster in my kit and I'm nipping to asda in a bit, he lives very close to asda, I think I'll swap the fill valve on my way as it's a 30 second job with fluidmasters and he can bell me in the morning to tell me if there's still a puddle. Will keep you posted I'll be sure to replace the pan connector Battle if the new fill valve doesn't sort it and I do end up taking the bog out.

Is the WHB close to the leak JC?
If it is it's worth checking the whb taps because I have known them to not quite turn fully off (customer thinks they're off) and run back down the spout either following the tap threads downwards or onto the whb then off the edge of the WHB onto the floor.
Other than this it sounds very overflowy to me.
One good thing is that at this time of year you can virtually rule out condensation.
Good luck keep us posted.
Tappy,

Good call. It's about 18'' away from the bog. I checked the pipework under the basin, didn't check taps themselves, they're the budget quarter turn lever ones, been in about 8 years if I remember right, so about the right time for the cartridges failing.

Tell him not to use it in 24 hrs if he can. Without flushing it that will narrow it down ?

I swapped the fill valve on Tuesday and he has had 2 days without any puddles in the mornings. So looks like it was overfilling through the night and it was either condensation on the cistern or some kind of capillary action that only appears when water is trickled through the close couple join. Will never know for sure but he's one happy customer so I'll take it Thanks for the suggestions chaps.

He could have been missing the toilet in the morning during his ablutions. Could also be caused by condensation on the cistern (we get it a lot during the winter months)

He could have been missing the toilet in the morning during his ablutions. Could also be caused by condensation on the cistern (we get it a lot during the winter months) You'd be surprised at the number of so called toilet leaks that turn out to be pee missing the bowl of the WC. No truer statement than this toilet humour! Gentlemen "Stand closer, it's shorter than you think"! Ladies "Please remain seated during the entire performance"!
