Hello people,
It's been awhile since I've posted on here. I've recently started doing some agency pipe fitting work, I've done screwed iron in the past but not very much of it, the company I'm working for are using Boss White n Hemp which seems backward to me. I know it's tried and tested but it's so messy and time consuming, whats wrong with using PTFE on screwed iron? I did suggest using Locktite 55 but they said it's to expensive, PTFE is cheap as chips though. Thoughts please gents as I'm a pipe fitting novice.

hello clart nice to see you back, we thought that 'security man' had done you in, anyrode, the reason boss white and hemp is prefered over ptfe is because, if you are screwing up a fitting and need to 'back it up some' ptfe will allow a water way and it will leak, with hemp and boss white, the water will expand the hemp and it won't leak,
