Cheers all They are crap rocky, I've been out to two floods and it was sure stops leaking from the housing not the pressure switch tubes. Tell them you can fit one but if it leaks it's their problem.

They generally leak from the tube connections to either the switch or main body.

Ok
So why a stop cock rather than a lever valve?

Stop taps are old technology rocky and when you want them to work they don't, a 1/4 turn lever valve is easy for anyone to use and generally will always work.

You still need a proper stop tap if you fit a sure stop one.

sure stops are an aid for people who find bending down and getting in the cupboard hard to do, So they are usefull to the infirm or disabled persons home, but like PB says, a manual stoptap ot lever valve is needed as well, because they leak and sometimes don't shut off,
I while ago I went to a house where the sure stop was the only way to shut the water off, I went to change the toilet fill valve, I turned off the sure stop but it still trickled through, so i opened the lowest tap, the sink tap and took a ball o fix valve up to the toilet, what a good move that was, because as I cut into the toilet feed, the sure stop opened, I was ready and put the iso on pretty dam quick,
be afraid, be very afraid of sure stop valves, smiley-sad056 nay

Someone on Screwfux posted a photo a while back of one that failed. The body had somehow came apart. Wouldn't have one in my house that's for sure.
