Many years ago, the landlord of my local asked me if I could have a look at his immersion heater as it wasn't heating his hot water. Got me multimeter out and checked the impedance of the heater,,, Open circuit, so ordered a new heater for him. Borrowed an immersion spanner off a mate and try as I might I just couldn't shift the bugger. Tried everything even borrowed a large stilson and lump hammer. Nothing was moving the one. Hit it as hard as I dare and it started to buckle the bloody cylinder. Must have been welded in I reckon.

yea the worst are the ones at the base, you need it full of water to start it unscewing to keep it stable, most of the time you need heat as well, and because its full of water, the head just disapates, I always warn them, " it might not survive the operation" and many don't,

It’s on a remted place but he’s a good payer & dare I admit an ‘injun’ Sorry all, call me a hypocrite but he’s actually ok. I’ve never met him, no idea where he lives but he’s got 2 rentals. The one I did with the 50mm waste that’s all sorted & the imperial one I did more recently.

Plenty times I've failed and I've been careful, just the cylinders can be like tissue paper!

There are many different techniques you can use but you always get one now and then that won't give in. The last one I wrote off was about 5yrs ago the cylinder was heated via an aga but they used the immersion in the summer, the boss was starting to twist . smiley-whacky086 fan shit

I’ve never failed with my blowlamp & immersion box spanner; Remove the immersion Thermostat & all wires - anything that’ll burn. Get your blowlamp on the centre of the old immersor & give it a good few minutes of Heat, then just turn it with your box spanner & a good sized Tommy bar👍👍 Sorted!!!......easy £100 profit job & a blowjob from the cat.
