Looks like I've been lazy/disorganised over the years. Usually just go to the scrappy with a bin full of brass, and my copper in one pile. I've got a bit of a mountain building in the shed, and need to weigh it in.
Should I be splitting the brass down into unplated and chromed? Does anyone split their copper into piles? Some pipe has paint on it, some has soldered joints, some just clean/plain copper.
Should I be sorting it to get extra money, or isn't it worth the hassle? If yes, how do you separate yours?

its well worth splitting into 3 bags, 1. copper, it don't matter about paint, that burns off in the smelt, but no fittings or solder, 2. braising copper, copper with solder on it 3. brass

You're teaching him valuable life lessons, and the little bugger wants paying? Should be paying you. Send him up chimney with a brush after he's done the scrap.

Thanks all for your replies. Will stop being so lazy and sort my scrap better. Must have thrown away a fortune over the years. To be honest, the shed's now full up and there's a growing pile in the garage. Soon won't be able to get the Bentley in there. Also, the pikeys have moved onto the Downs about 2 miles away and those fookers are like magpies. The lot will disappear in no time.
Should have known Tom had done a vid on the subject, thanks mate.

There was an old Tranny circling this afternoon piled high with old bikes and rads. Fookers can smell all that copper piled up I reckon.

I love scrap! Is this a quote from Golden Gordon clart? 15.55 is the start of the "I love scrap" scene, but the whole episode is as funny as fuck!

Thanks for the tip off, PB. I'll get the neighbourhood watch to keep an eye out. bMaM72ureaAMEVc6b1_1 camera
