Attachment Deleted some cast out today with cement joints, I noticed little fibres in the cement joints when it was out on the deck. Did they use asbestos in the joints years ago?

They did indeed end feed.
It was also used in taps for packing the gland.
It's in things you never think it is, like those old black Bakelite cisterns even they contained asbestos.

Funny enough,this job had one of those black cisterns. There was rope seal in the cast joints too.😕

the bad shit was the blue asbestos, Plumbers of my age fitted asbestos, gutters,soilpipes,lagged boilers, pipes and tanks with it, We cut it with saws,knives and the dust went everywhere, Since they found about the deadly affect of it, rules were made but not kept to, asbestos was still being used in the 70's even though they knew it was deadly but now they wore gloves masks and overalls, I don't know how I'm still alive, I ate worms as a kid, only had one bath a week, never washed after using newspaper to wipe my arse, drank milk from a farm,had full cream milk at skool, walked to skool every day in the dark without a high vis vest, got caned by teechers, hit by board dusters thrown by the teecher, swam in the local cooling towers lakes which is condensate water from the steam turbines, I've shagged birds in every Town from Glasgow to London, drank beer all my life, I've smoked for 20 years and raced bikes for 10 years, Don't worry endfeed, we are all going to die one day,  |

I stripped ‘Monkey Dung’ asbestos from pipes on Price Work. Stripped it too from huge copper cylinders for scrap money, bought cheap South African Sherry & got completely pissed out my head. Bought drinks for rough old whores, shagged them & got a dose of the crabs.
Here I am 60 & as fit as fuck, could’ve been the Sherry, could’ve been the powder for the crabs? Dunno??
I wouldn’t change a thing, I love this Trade & it’s been good to me👍👍
As for asbestos, awful stuff!! I lost a great mate because of it, he was a Spark in John Brown’s Shipyards in Glasgow. A lovely happy lad & fantastic fun, I miss him every day. So take care out there!!

My father in-law worked on the ship yards as a young man, asbestosis didn't catch up with him until he was 86,he did well, dementia just started kicking in... asbestosis took him fast!!!!

Got a mate who worked on big boilers, steam generators, pipes at power stations, etc straight from school. Lagging pipes with asbestos was his main job from mid teens for a few years. He's fit as a fiddle now, but he's shitting himself as he worked with it day in, day out. They must have known the dangers in the 60s, but didn't care that young lads were breathing this stuff in.

do what you do and live for today, live each day like its your last, cos one day, it will be, I've retired and i'm 66 in about 6 weeks, I don't wanna get to 96 thats too old, and don't think I'll hit 86, ya don't see many people in the pub at 86, So if I aim for 76, I've 500 weeks if i'm lucky enough to get there, enjoy life while you can, fisher smiley-eatdrink009drinking  before the big day  |
