Our gas bills are like having a mortgage 😱 thought our bills would go down with having a new boiler. As Tom mentioned plenty insulation, I have also sent you a PM endfeed.

Our gas bills are like having a mortgage 😱 thought our bills would go down with having a new boiler. I thought the same EF too. Especially after watching all those TV adverts a couple of years ago. The house is definitely warmer than it was with the 30 year old boiler, but I have to say that the new condensing boiler has never saved me any cash either! I was Working at a 3 bed semi today on air source heating (all electric house). He said that he was currently paying just over £5.00/ day and this is with the supposedly cheapest form of heating available! Bottom line is if you want to be warm you have to dig deep in your pocket these days.

Insulation, insulation, insulation!! Simple, some Scandinavia homes can be heated with a squiral’s fart.
Currently fitting boilers with an external POC flue temperature of 28degrees C.

Aye, I to do think that that's the problem in the UK with HPs...a lack of Insulation. The last labour government had called for an inquiry into why heat pumps don't appear to work in the UK. It could be poor installation techniques with a lack of insulation. However, the UKs climate had not been ruled out either. Then came the financial crash and the report was cancelled. Pity because it would have made very interesting reading.

It's the young ones who can't claim any benefits that are freezing to death with this HP heating system that they can't afford to run. At least with the old gas fire you could put it on for 1hr, huddle round it, get warm, then turn it off. It's all very well having a COP of 1:4 on a hot summers day (when you don't need it). In a minus period of freezing weather that COP can be as low as 1:1. It's now actually working out dearer to run than the old storage heaters were on E7!!

Plus whilst there in the de-frost mode they're not producing any heat for the customer, just looking after themselves.
The older Calorex units have a buffer tank of stored hot water to draw upon whilst defrosting, however, it's taking up more room in houses that are already short of space - plus it's something else to go wrong!
You have to ask yourself is the heating method of the future for the UK?

I like the hybrid units. Ashp connected to a gas or oil boiler. It works out what is the most efficient and uses that. Surprised they haven’t taken off a lot more. Probs cost I suppose. You always have back up. Great idea
the future isn’t gas or oil. People are working on it now and making great headway
