Anyone got any tips for undoing the wingnuts/bolts when they seize to remove a cistern? Usually caused by the captive head not being held still (because the bracket has rusted) and turning with the wingnut. Had to try and get a junior hacksaw blade in between the wingnut and pan to cut through the bolt but it's a pig of a job due to lack of space.

I've used a set similar to this a few times when it's been a nut not wing nuts www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Piece-Pass-Thru-Socket-And-Ratcheting-Set-CHA39100-Brand-New-/181656972043?hash=item2a4b996b0b:g:rdkAAOSwBahUz7HTbasically the bolt passes through the the socket and ratchet and the socket fits on to the nut - then I vice grip the bolt which has passed though the ratchet and just work it loose.

Good job Tom
Do you silicone the runner washer to the base of the pan inside the cistern?

I've had the angle grinder out before, hacksaw etc.
I've got a Multitool now, the Fein one, 18v, quite good.

I always use a bit of silicone on ceramic cisterns, there's always a flaw in ceramic castings to catch you out,

here's one I struggled with GRRRRRRNot seen that vid - thanks. So you managed to slide the cistern off once you'd cut through one of the bolts? - I'll try that next time. It's always pleasant kneeling or lying in that special sweet spot next to a toilet while you saw through a rusty bolt! Good tip using folded paper behind the bolt heads to keep them in place too.
