A woman just sent me this. The plumber has left because of a family issue, yeah right!! He’s done the cold & connected but this is a pic of the hot water pipe. It looks like it’s connected to a lcs pipe? I’m not sure. Any thoughts? I’m looking to avoid it I think Looks messy

Looks like 3/4 iron to me? I'd PTFE and thread a male iron into that open fitting, then work from copper there onwards.

I agree with endfeed, thats the way to go, or perhaps rip all the iron out and start from the cylinder in copper or plastic, Iron is not for domestic use it will be rotton in places,

I'm with Toms 2nd suggestion on this one. If you can rip it out then do so. Last time I worked on LCS (other than ripping it out) was in college 18 years ago. I had a more money than sense customer a couple of years ago who wanted a school rad fitting in a new conservatory in LCS. I told them I'd do it in copper, not LCS and advised that the heat output would be rubbish, they said they'll get someone else to do it then. I went back to fit them a new kitchen sink a few months ago and had a sneaky look, there was a type 22 panel rad in there plumbed in using John Guest. I didn't say anything

Never seen galv steel on Hot Water Services here in God’s Country. Orginal Lead cold water services were the first thing installed in houses & the very rich had heavy gauge copper pipe, with finely screwed ends, that were soldered into brass fittings. That copper makes serious money down the Scrappy💷💷💷💷🍺🍺🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃😎😎😎

That old iron pipe looks like an old heating pipe to me, especially with that drain off on the end.
Is it in a flat-let group once controlled by district heating?
