Went to a 'quick' job on Thursday about 4:30pm for a click clack waste that needed a new stopper bit according to customer, should of been in there 5 minutes tops. Once there discovers the waste had snapped in the middle and needed replacing. The ped was the kind where the pipes come up through a hole in the bottom, so the bloody basin needed to be removed from the wall to access the waste. Luckily it was on a fischer kit and not glued up was still a pain at that time though. Fitted the new waste, plumbers mait at the top, silicone at the bottom, refitted sink and connected feeds and waste back up, tested it and it was pishing out where the pot meets the backnut on the waste. Looked like I'd over compressed the sealing ring under there and it had squished out. Was about 5:45 by now so told them I'd be back Saturday afternoon. Thought I'd try a basin mate (they're £1.17 at foolstation). I was properly impressed, not used one before but at that price I'll probably use them on every basin I fit from now on. They look massive at first, but once fitted they don't take up nearly as much room as you'd think. I can highly recommend them.

Same here, don’t use them. I do the same as Tom. You have a video I think Tom, post it up for the hard of thinking - there’s a good chap.

Used loads of them, they can be a bugger to push home on the waste so a top tip is to use an empty silicone tube to push them into position. Never had or seen one leak as of yet...

I often go belt and braces and use same method as Tom and a Basin Mate as well. Especially if it's a basin that would be a right mare to get off if it leaked. Usually but the brass part of waste in hole with P. Mait sausage, then fit Basin Mate and tighten down nut and washer. Take off nut and washer, and put bead of sillycoon around thread sticking out of B M. Replace nut/washer and tighten. Never leaks.
Only trouble with Basin Mates, is they are very tight to get over thread. But then, I suppose that's what makes them seal so well.

10/10 for the basin mate from me I wouldn't use them all the time though, however, I used one last week when renewing a chrome waste with the pedestal staying in situ' - it would have all got very messy had I used mastic! Worth carrying one as van stock.
