I had another thread but was getting a bit long so thought I'd start afresh. Anyway, at long last I got my tray in, dead level and no leaks. Only one problem that is bothering me is that I had to cut out my 18mm floorboard right to the edge.
The red line shows where it is cut (don't have a photo of that). And the blue lines are the joists.
Does the trap, tray and flooboard definitely need redoing? It will kill me to do it but I suppose if I have to then I have to. There is no way I can access from underneath.
Incidentally the reason I cut the board so much was because I think I got the wrong trap - it was so shallow the outlet wouldn't go below the floorboards.

Yes that's okay, shower tray manufacturers state that the tray must be 100% supported absolute 100% coverage and yet when they supply a leg kit its say 6 stupid little legs covering what 5%?
I'm a convert to rapidset cement based tiled adhesive over sand and cement, much more solid and stable without that slight heartsinking crunch this next morning when you stand on a corner.

Yeah I should have listened but I'd already bought the sand and cement and didn't have the right sealant to hand. No doubt I'll come crying in 18 months when it starts leaking and you tell me I have to demolish the lot... Anyway, I guess if the whole tray can support itself as would be the case with silicone then maybe that explains why a bit of flex where I've cut to the edge isn't such a big problem? Tom, may I suggest you have a Tom's tip jar where folk can donate the price of a beer to whoever has made 'em happy like you,PB and WF have just done

tomplum.co.uk was a none profit making company while i ran it, It was never designed that way, its just the way it happened, So giving free advice is just an extension to that, when i'm homeless and in the town centre begging for spare change, toss me a £1 or better still, get your missus to toss me off

In the words of Winston Wolf lets not start sucking each others dicks quite yet, there are still a thousand mistakes you can make with a shower, are you tanking it Dafty?

Yes to tanking - I already bought the Everbuild one - maybe not the best. Also I know its much better to put the boards in first, then tray then tank and you can see I haven't done that mostly because I wan't to maximise space and because I'm a Dafty after all... So current plan is to leave left wall (bare plaster after I sanded it) and back and right wall to have plasterboard. The PB will go down to about 5mm above the tray where I plan to flood the gap with a good sealant. Then tank the lot. I'm only putting thin/light tiles which will be below 20Kg/sqm including the adhesive. Well currently looking at 9mm which is stretching it a bit I think. If I wanted it to last 30 years and wanted thick marble then would say what I'm proposing is not adequate. Maybe its not adequate anyway but its better than our other bathroom which wasn't even tanked. And no to sharing me wife Tom. Hmmm on the other hand if you finished my bathroom I might consider it ..... Problem with that is I doubt she'd agree to it...

You are better off just butting the plasterboard up to the tray (tank the edge if you can) and then overlap the tape onto the tray 10mm.
