Hello members, I'm after a bit of advice in regards to working on modern boilers. Im not gas safe registered and would not think twice on working on the gas components. I suppose my question is am I allowed to remove the front casing on a system boiler to change the pump or expansion vessel ?
Many thanks Gary Elliot.

Hello Gary and welcome to the brew cabin, By Law you should not work on Gas appliance as part of your business, So if its not part of your business, go to it, If the front casing is not the combustion chamber, then its ok, if it is the chamber then be aware of this; Its all about are you confident that you can do the job without causing harm to yourself and others, Gassing people and causing explosions are very rare, but people getting poisoned by carbon monoxide are all too common, some will never know because just a bit can affect you and its not enough to give symptoms but can have a long term affect on life, anyways feel free to come back and ask any questions you like, no one bites or takes the piss, feel free to come in and banter or just listen to the banter and scratch your bollocks and enjoy it,

Thank you so much for your reply Tom. I think I will leave well alone then, its a shame because I've replaced many pumps and zone valves within an airing cupboard but if the pump is within the boiler itself I'm stuck. I really appreciate your reply as trying to get an answer from gas engineers is impossible. They think they have a god like status ,
Regards Gary Elliot.

Gary - firstly, welcome to the forum and please get yourself properly signed up. Changing pumps on lots of boilers is often easier than changing external pumps. Bit of a drain down, front casing off, disconnect wires and usually 4 allen bolts holding the head on. Then it's reversal of this to install new one.

That's the benefit of being a plumber, Dick. There's never a knicker drawer far away from where we're working.
I did think all this tartan skirt wearing thing north of the border may get out of control one day.
