So Mr Bek turned up today, took his readings in the garage and then noticed a 22mm elbow with the pipe leading vertically off that into the ceiling. It runs behind the ceiling to the other side of the garage where the boiler is. No other gas consumption in the property. The hole is clearly quite a bit bigger than the pipe and he said, "...does that pipe go into the house?..." and then if "the pipe leaks" the gas could go into the house.". Then he said I should fill it with putty ??
Now as of yet, I've never soldered or done anything with gas in my life - I think that elbow was there when we moved in and certainly its survived loads of pressure tests done by gassafe folk over the years although I haven't used any LDS specifically on that joint. There are obviously other end feed joints beyond that one.
So what is this all about? Meter readers now being told to provide gassafe advice (then how do they deal with the questions?). Should I seal up the ceiiing there? That is one of about 20 holes peppered all over the ceiling.
Edit: Looks like one side of the fitting is a different colour which I think is plasterboard dust or similar covering blobs of solder.

He sounds like a self important meter reader with ideas about getting on the board of directors of gassafe and in 2 years becoming the next Hitler and taking over the World,
