I met a woman who worked at a Facilities company. Said she needed someone in my area, blah blah blah
Anyway, did one job, all ok.
Saw a job on Monday, install integrated dishwasher, no updates
It’s just too many phone calls & emails from them to be worth it.
She rang again today about that job for more advice
I couldn’t be bothered to ring her back
These companies all seem the same
I don’t think they’re for me

A friend of mine use to subby to a company that dealt with letting agents, they just covered plumbing & heating, electrics. The company had their own stores for all parts, materials needed so it was just his labour, speaking to him one day he told me all jobs had a set amount to what they would get paid, ie toilet fill & flush £30. Radiator valve £30 etc etc. Can you imagine going to a toilet that's all concealed and changing the guts out for £30, or changing a central heating pump and you can't get the old one off without major surgery. Needless to say he didn't stay there long and set up his own company.

Yeah, it’s no good, people can’t tell us what to charge I did a bit for a letting agent, I knew a chap that worked there, I did one job, no problems, then a woman from the office rang me & said they needed a job doing & they were calling in a favour!!! I said I’ve only done one job, oh, so you won’t do it, noooooo It’s always something Private customers are the way to go Yes sometimes difficult but there’s millions of them!

letting agents are a no go, they want you there at the drop of a hat, then you have to make arrangements round the tennant, the tennant wants a time to suit him/her, then like PB says the agent has a price set for each job, then you have a 30 wait for payment,
No way joe, find another mug, smiley-sad056 nay

Most builders need avoiding too, I do work for two I know and they are fine, very honest and give me plenty of notice for upcoming projects and they pay ok. I've been caught out by a few in the past that sail their company finances very close to the wind and they usually crash at some point.

Better off stacking tins of beans at Asda.

I've been pretty lucky with letting agencies. Sacked one off that paid when the tenant next paid their rent which meant up to 30 days wait after each job and one of their tenants who had a new plumbing issue every week because the plumbing in the house was so bad was a demanding, fat, stinking dole dosser with an attitude problem. But the two I mainly do work for now are great, they pay on receipt of the invoice and understand when I can't get to a job straight away. I charge just under my normal rates for them. i.e. I'd normally charge £60 for a fill valve change on an easy to access cistern, but I'd charge £50 to the letting agent. Price goes up a bit for fluidmaster rather than flomasta or if the cistern has to come off etc. Definitely worth working for them with a steady flow of 4-5 jobs per week and the odd big job off them every now and then. I think it's the fact that they're both relatively small agencies (about 250 properties between them) that keeps it pleasant. If it was fixed prices anywhere near the ones shown above it literally wouldn't be worth getting out of bed for, but in my experience there are still some decent agencies out there to work for.
