I need to return this week & replace the washer & plastic clip on the cistern Now then, as mentioned before it’s a strange set up Does the clip sit in the end of the cistern where there’s a small lip it can go into or does it push up with the washer to the other end of the cistern? The plastic clip is pretty loose & to be honest I can’t see any point of it! Once it’s in its loose & at present drips. The owners have now confirmed they do not want a new cistern. I’ll try again with a new washer & clip £5. Failing that I have no further ideas other than LSX. Cheers all

I would think (and I don't really know) that it would compress into the cistern locking the washer into place. It often becomes apparent after a bit of trial and error with these type of plumbing things. Did I ever tell you of Bembo's method? You just pull PTFE tight and wrap it round and round keeping it tight all the time until half the roll is on. You never need to put the nut on Perhaps a video when I'm back at work?
