Eee, it's grand in here! And can I just say congratulations to Uncle Tom on the birth of his new forum. Great idea, and I hope it is a great success.
Anyway, down to business. I've used self-cleaning flux in the past, eg. La-Co, Powerflow, Everflux. I have no experience of the more traditional, grease based fluxes, eg. Fluxite, Yorks. Traditional, Templars Telux, etc. I was wondering what the advantages of one over the other. I assume the older, grease fluxes still have a use, as there's no shortage of places selling them still.
How do they differ in use? It looks like you have to be more careful cleaning the pipes and fittings with grease fluxes, what are the other disadvantages. And one for you, Tom - which one(s) have you got in your bag?
Thanks all.

some councils insist on traditional fluxes, I dunno why, i think its just the clerk of works like to make up rules, Anyway when that siuation arises I buy 'yorkshire flux' not the brown shit in a green tin but the white stuff, although it says 'pipe and fittings must be cleaned' on the tub, its actually the same as powerflow and you can uise it as such, otherwise I use laco, I got kicked off a council site once cos the clerk of works caught me twice using laco, so i said to him," I told tell you what ink to put in your pen, so why are you telling me what flux i can use", he did't like that, smiley-finger005

As regards to flux I only ever use La-Co.
