All fixed yesterday. Another skill done as not had any experience with them.
Pretty simple, flush goes in cistern & it flushes!
Are the cistermisers run off electric?
I’m sure it had one before as there’s a part on the pipe.
Cheers all

Are the cistermisers run off electric? There are pet cocks which just slow the water down, but branded cistermisers are electric. They can be controlled by the light coming on or a movement sensor, i.e. no light or movement = no filling. Last urinal cistern I went to had one but it had failed and was always on so just turned the flow down to a trickle at an isolation valve.

some are and work how JC says but some work by sensing the water pressure in the building, if the pressure remains high it shuts down because that tells it, no one is using water, So when the pressure fluctuates, it tells it people are using water so it lets water to the cistern, clever hey ??

Yeah, petcocks I know about
Cistermiser I don’t. So they need an electrical feed then?

Yeah, some need a feed & some as Tom says work on pressure.

Yes, the standard ones just work on water pressure. No batteries. The newer infrared ones are either batteries or from the mains through a transformer.

So no batteries or elec hook up for them? Just a bit of diaphragm wobble starts them up? I've probably seen them and not known what they were or just presumed the control or wiring was remote or hidden. Very clever. Every day really is a school day

When I first came across them (quite a few years ago now), the complaint was that it won't flush and it smells. After doing our investigations we discovered that it does work - but only when you turn the tap on. We then decided that it was working correctly. We got the manager back and told him this "you have a piss then go and wash your hands and it's the turning on of the tap which detects a drop in water pressure which then activates the water miser causing the urinal cistern to fill. It's a water saving device! The boss was of the restaurant was really embarrassed by this because it meant that non of his employees were ever washing there hands after taking a pee! We the "simple plumbers" had caught the mucky buggers out!!

Was working in a restaurant staff bogs couple of years ago. The chef came out of the cubicle after taking a dump and straight out the door. Didn't st0p to wash his hands.
I thought to myself - never eat in this place.

A well known Pizza maker in Wigan asked me to price for putting a hot water geezer in the kitchen, I did't get the job but that pizza place had been open for years without having hot water to clean the kitchen and wash the pots in, I never went there again,
