They have had to stop using some pigment or component of the paint that made it stay white because of EU/environmental reasons.
Oil based paints are shit now and everyone is using water based but water based gloss is shit too and folk are going for "satinwood" finish instead. I think it looks awful, like it's undercoat that needs finishing but it does stay white longer.
I used some dulux once gloss, it went yellow fast. Then bought some special enamel white gloss that was supposed to stay white and it hasn't. 12 months in and you can see the yellowing compared to the white emulsion at the side of it. I fucking hate painting too.

Some years ago EU regulations made manufacturers reduce the amount of VOC's (volatile organic compounds) Ever since then, oil based gloss has been absolute shite. Yellowing paint might be alright on the continent, but we dunna want it. Pro painters dunna want it. No one here in the UK want it.

I don't even think emulsion is as good these days. Bought some Wickes emulsion, and because it was a small room and I prefer brushing, I used a large emulsion brush on the walls. Never had any problem with brushing emulsion on walls over the years, but this time it was patchy and you could see all the brush marks. So looked into it and everyone was saying Wickes is shite paint. Got Dulux instead - same problem. So from my experience, looks like they've done something to emulsion that makes it much more difficult to use.
And I hate painting too. Hats off to anyone who does it for a living. Would drive me nuts.
